First Impression: Piolang Raspberry Hair Treatment Vinegar

Welcome to the third part of my Althea item first impression reviews! While most of my cosmetics [and those on my wishlist] are makeup or skincare products, I did order one hair care product, which was the Piolang Raspberry Hair Treatment Vinegar. You can see the rest of what was inside my beauty box here.

As has been my usual format, here's the website's own visual write-up on the product and its claims:

The generous 500mL bottle claims to detangle hair, clean and soothe the scalp, soften the hair, and leave a raspberry scent on the hair. Following instructions to use it after shampooing, I applied this to my hair in place of my hair conditioner and rinsed it off in less than five minutes.

This is how the bottle looked before and after I used it once:

I think I applied a bit more than necessary, since I didn't realize its texture as I applied it. It's quite watery, but lathers more than you would expect and left my hair feeling as if I'd applied conditioner or even a hair mask! Non-drying at all. The scent is definitely vinegar-y but masked enough by the raspberry fragrance.

About my hair, though, it's been more than 15 months since I last had it treatedI bleached and dyed my tips blue (I used to have long hair) back in May 2014, then had it recolored in December of that same year. Before that, I'd had it rebonded twice in my life: way back in 2006, and then in early 2012.

Nowadays, I blow-dry it under low heat (is it called the diffuser button?) every other night. I shampoo my hair every other day to make sure I don't strip it of its natural oils, and I do it at night to save time getting ready in the morning because I find it easier to stay up late than to get up early. To avoid sleeping with wet or damp hair, I enlist the help of my hairdryer.

Unfortunately, I don't have any before-and-after photos to show because 1) it's a hair product and my hair isn't severely damaged at the moment for any visible results to be obvious and 2) while my phone camera is of good quality, I have no one to take photos of my hair for me. #foreveralone (jk jk)

Overall, I think this is a pretty good product. It did not feel drying or irritating to my hair at all, and it was much more lightweight than an ordinary hair conditioner but still delivered the same conditioning and moisturizing effects. I also feel that it deeply cleansed my scalp.

If you can afford to splurge on a maintenance or regular hair product to take the place of your hair conditioner, mask, or treatment, I would highly recommend this, because it also doubles as an anti-dandruff treatment. It's regular price is Php750.00 which is indeed on the steep side, but right now it's on sale on Althea for Php350.00, roughly the same price as many high-end conditioners and hair treatments. I would especially recommend it for dry and dandruff-prone scalps, thus while I do appreciate this product, I have more of a greasy hair problem and wouldn't mind not repurchasing when I run out unless I notice a drastic change in how oily my scalp gets compared to when I use my regular conditioner.

That's all. Thanks for reading!
